Design Development Interactive Multimedia System

Introduction to Multimedia Systems by Sugata Mitra,

Introduction to Multimedia Systems by Sugata Mitra,
Introduction to Multimedia Systems is designed to be a general introduction to the broad field of multimedia... more specifically digital interactive multimedia. The editors have included topics such as the principles of "multiple" and "media," including sound, two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphics, animation, and text. All of these elements are stitched together by the programmer, or multimedia designer, based on the conceptualization of the designer. In order to take full advantage of the potential for a wide array of multimedia applications it is important to have a broad understanding of the principles of various media. The person preparing a multimedia "package," which may include such media as sound, computer graphics, and software, will most likely have a strong background in only one or perhaps none of the media to be used. Introduction to Multimedia Systems has been developed to be the first place to turn, both as an introductory textbook or as a professional reference for anyone diving into multimedia preparation. Multimedia is first and foremost a medium of communication. In order to take advantage of the nearly unlimited potential provided by digital environments a full survey of multimedia capabilities is covered in this book. Website Feature: Learning by doing! The editors currently use the book in combination with a wide array of sample software and weblinks for students to learn how to build by example. Each part of the book will have a direct link to a publicly accessible website that will maintain these available software tools. The weblinks will be updated as software versions advance, and most of the software involves demo or scaled down versions ofcommercially available multimedia design software/editing tools.

Contextual Media: Multimedia & Interpretation by Edward Barrett, X
"Contextual Media expands upon the theme of social construction of knowledge developed in Edward Barrett's three previous volumes. The thirteen contributions focus on specific applications of multimedia technology to cultural institutions such as museums, universities, and corporate environments; they analyze narrative and other navigational structures in various interactive multimedia systems and make recommendations for the design of future systems based on these analyses; and they present innovative uses of multimedia that break out of the confines of a single terminal to develop interactive transformational environments.Contributors: Colin Beardon, Walter Bender, Edward Brown, Mark H. Chignell, Glorianna Davenport, Ben Davis, Peter S. Donaldson, Larry Friedlander, Geri Gay, Ricki Goldman-Segall, Janet H. Murray, Patrick Purcell, Michael Roy, Niall Sweeney, Laura Teodosio, Suzette Worden.

Hugo programming language - Hugo is a programming language and design system for interactive fiction created by Kent Tessman. While not as popular as Inform or TADS, it is still used, particularly for multimedia interactive fiction (as opposed to strict text adventures).

System Development Life Cycle - System Development Life Cycle, or SDLC, is the process used by a systems analyst to develop an information system, including requirements, validation, training, and user ownership through investigation, analysis, design, implementation and maintenance. SDLC is also known as information systems development or application development.

StudioIMC - Studio IMC (Interactive Multimedia Culture) is a New York City -based firm that was started at Yale in 2001 and incorporated in 2004. Studio IMC describes itself as "a cutting-edge new media design firm and artist management studio specializing in the development of immersive environments, interactive displays, social software, and wireless/mobile marketing technologies for use in arts, entertainment, retail, and marketing".

Continuous design - Continuous design is a software development practice of creating and modify the design of a system as it is developed, rather than up-front, before development starts, (as in the waterfall model) or in bursts at the beginning of each iteration (as in the iterative model). Also called "evolutionary design" or "incremental design", continuous design was popularized by extreme programming.
